Sweet Briar College built a new Fitness and Athletics Center to serve as a social and wellness center for its students and the community as well. The facility includes an elevated running track suspended above a multipurpose area with Teraflex flooring. The multiple courts can accommodate tennis, volleyball or basketball courts. The floor is also lined for indoor lacrosse and soccer. The facility houses Sweet Briar’s Athletic Hall of Fame, two separate racquet ball and squash courts, a Bistro, a 55-seat theater and support offices.Honoring Sweet Briar’s commitment to the environment, the facility uses a geothermal HVAC system, Energy Star-rated roof, energy-efficient windows, maximum insulation and skylights to minimize the use of artificial lighting during the day, as well as occupancy sensors for lights and low-flow plumbing fixtures.
