Liberty Middle School
New Construction

Project Details

In Association with Moseley Architects:

Jamerson-Lewis provided General Contracting services for the new 122,000 square foot Liberty Middle School in Bedford, Virginia. The new Middle School provides state-of-the-art Collaborative Learning Spaces, Classrooms, Science Labs, Music Labs, Art Studios, Media Center and Athletic Facilities to 750 students. The design for the signature Main Entrance of the new Liberty Middle School was replicated from the existing Middle School using new construction assemblies. Two second-story Vegetated Roofs provide Science Labs with outdoor, ecology-focused learning spaces. The central Courtyard provides natural light to the interior and a visual link for school orientation. The competition Gymnasium and Locker Rooms provide fresh competitions facilities for the Middle School and High School teams.

Liberty Middle School is located on a previously undeveloped 46 acre site. Main and Secondary VDOT entry and access roads were built. All utilities were extended from major roads to the site, including a new sanitary sewer Pump Station. New competition Baseball and Softball fields and practice Football and Soccer fields were developed. The Baseball Field meets all VHSL standards and will also be used by the High School. Bull pens, Press box and Concessions buildings, Dugouts, Bleachers with concourse, Competition Lighting, Scoreboard, and laser-graded playing surfaces are incorporated in the project and make this Bedford County Public School’s premier Baseball facility. The Softball Field also meets VHSL standards in all aspects, but does not have competition lighting, scoreboard or a press box. Infrastructure has been put in place to allow for these to be added as the County’s needs dictate. Grading, seeding and infield/warning track mixtures were critical for the competition Baseball and Softball fields. Rough grading was coordinated to allow for a final laser-grading. Top soil requirements were determined through sampling and coordinating with the different final seed requirements. Infield and Warning Track material was coordinated with local suppliers, field of play requirements, and maintenance needs.
