Chatham Hall Athletic Health & Wellness Center

Addition

Project Details

In Association with VMDO Architects

Located in Chatham, Virginia, Chatham Hall, a boarding school exclusively for girls, is planning to construct a new Athletic Health and Wellness Center spanning 34,695 square feet. This new facility aims to be versatile and promote overall wellness for both students and staff.

The center will be designed to be easily accessible and adaptable for various activities that support physical, mental, and emotional health. It will also provide spaces for students and staff to come together, socialize, and engage in recreational activities.

In line with the school's commitment to being environmentally friendly, the project aims to have a low energy usage, targeting an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 20. By using advanced building and mechanical systems, such as solar panels provided through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), the center hopes to lower long-term operational costs and work towards producing as much energy as it consumes.

Fundraising efforts are currently underway to support the construction, which will involve several key steps:

Removing the existing gym and locker room building from 1990

Building a new two-story Health and Wellness Center, along with a modern gym featuring a raised running track

Improving the surrounding outdoor area with features like a peaceful garden courtyard, a spacious play lawn, a welcoming terrace, and well-lit walkways

Upgrading the campus to include geothermal and solar energy systems, helping to reduce the school's carbon footprint and energy expenses.

  • This project reflects Chatham Hall's commitment to creating a supportive environment that encourages wellness, community involvement, and sustainability for all.
